The Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant announced the completion of maintenance as part of the overhaul of its converter number 2. The total volume of the project investment amounted to 650 million rubles, including the replacement of the converter housing and the installation of emissions. This is the first of the three stages of a large environmental project on Chermk.
The General Director of the Russian Metallurgical Division Severstal, Sergei Toropov noted that “we initially planned to complete this important maintenance work in 60 days, including the replacement of the converter case and installation for capturing the block emissions. As a result, we completed maintenance 8 days ahead of schedule, which will allow us to release an additional 50 million tons of steel. "
Toropov also noted that the main repair operations at the plant are an important contribution of the company, and the replacement of the case will ensure the stable performance of the converter for the next 12 years. The installation made using of the highest quality rubber products , which captures unorganized emissions, should reduce their leakage from the converter workshop by a third in 2013. This marks the successful completion of the first stage of a large project for the construction of inorganized emissions on all three Chermk converters.
The maintenance work was carried out by the repair and construction units of Severstal Russian steel, including OJSC Domnaremont, LLC Severstal PromService, as well as the Severstal LLC. The installation of the main technological equipment was carried out under the control of Siemens Vai Metals Technologies, which is a supplier and developer of the treatment plant especially for Chermk.
