China's Pangang Group has entered into an agreement with Siemens Metals Technologies to supply a new continuous galvanizing line for its plant in Chongqing. The line will process 450,000 tonnes of high-strength cold-rolled strip per year for further use in the automotive industry. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-2015.
Siemens will design and supply a complete mechanical and electrical equipment for the continuous galvanizing line at Pangang in Chongqing. The galvanizing line will produce strips from 0.5 to 3.0 mm thick and 800 to 1600 mm wide. The maximum coil weight will be 34 tons. The total coverage on both sides will be between 50 and 350 grams per square meter.
The Siemens scope of supply includes complexes that perform welding and cutting operations based on laser technology. The laser beam does not require mechanical shearing, thus not wearing out the cutting tool. This enables a continuous strip, with a capacity of 430 meters. The strip will be cleaned in the electrolytic cleaning section and then heated in a hot-dip galvanizing oven and fed to the coating baths. The induction furnace is used for galvanizing with annealing.
The coated strip is then quenched in a cooling section. The strip will then be fed to the Siroll Roll Coater mobile system, which will provide additional protection for coated surfaces against corrosion and fingerprints. Finally, the strip will be clipped. This will be followed by a technical inspection in which the surface quality of the strip is checked.
