The Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich (Lenin) of the Metinvest Group in 2013 reduced the consumption of natural gas in the production of pig iron by 30 times. Due to the development of the pulverized coal injection technology, the consumption of natural gas for injection into blast furnaces amounted to 1.14 m3 per ton of pig iron, which is 34.46 m3 /ton lower compared to 2012 - 35.6 m3 /ton. This was reported by the press service of the company.
Thanks to the commissioning of the pulverized coal unit, the skip coke consumption was reduced by 128.15 kg /ton compared to 2012 and amounted to 395.4 kg /ton. In addition, the modernization of equipment and a number of major energy saving measures allowed the Ilyich Plant to save more than UAH 75 million on the purchase of energy resources throughout 2013.
“Scientific progress and the introduction of modern technologies open up new opportunities for metallurgists, including for reducing the energy intensity of production. And we intend to use them to the maximum to improve the efficiency of the enterprise. The cost of natural gas and electricity are the determining factors in the cost of our products. Today the Ilyich Combine pays close attention to the modernization of production facilities and the introduction of advanced energy-saving developments and initiatives, ”said Yuri Zinchenko, General Director of PJSC MMK named after Ilyich ".
