RUSAL, the world's leading aluminum producer and alumina processor, has announced its intention to build a new casting line at the Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Smelter, where pre-design work has already begun. The new plant project is part of the company's policy aimed at increasing the share of alloys in pure aluminum production, which by the end of 2014 will be about 45 percent.
The project will be completed in 2016. The company estimates that the total investment will be around US $ 45 million. The implementation of the project will be the next stage after the completion of the modernization of the Sayanogorsk foundry, which will be carried out until November 2014 with an investment of $ 22.8 million. In addition, $ 4.6 million will be allocated for the technical re-equipment of the Khakass aluminum plant.
The new line will produce a wide range of billet sizes, which include sizes of the largest diameter up to 460 mm, which are in demand in various industries. The company currently produces billets with diameters ranging from 200 mm. The new casting line will help increase the production of billets. The production capacity of the line will be about 120 thousand per year.
Director of the RUSAL Aluminum Division, Evgeny Nikitin, said: “Our customers in the construction, packaging and automotive industries will benefit from the new alloys planned to be produced at KrAZ. Large diameter billets are especially in demand in the automotive industry, which is used to produce wheels for pickups and trucks "
