The head of the Committee on International Affairs in the Russian Duma, Alexei Pushkov, believes that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is personally responsible for the fact that the EU expanded its sanctions against Russia, stating: sanctions, then weakened them.Merkel's tough stance on this issue is under “American influence.” Do not underestimate the influence of the United States on Europe, Germany and especially on Merkel, notes Alexei Pushkov.
Pushkov advises Merkel to reconsider her position. Because now the renewal of sanctions is "not unanimous" among the EU member states. This discrepancy will widen, recalling that Germany itself is expressing an interest in expanding Nord Stream 2, although Poland and other Eastern European countries were against it. It turns out that in cases where the interest is strong, the EU cooperates with Russia, if there is no urgent need for this, then the EU remains in its existing positions.
In addition, Pushkov believes that the United States and other NATO countries took advantage of the Ukrainian crisis to increase anti-Russian potential and continue to deploy anti-missile systems in Eastern Europe.
