According to the Dutch press, Tata Steel has invested hundreds of millions in the modernization of the Ijmeiden plants. There, among other things, a new line for the production of sheet metal for the automotive industry is to be built.
Tata Steel plans to build factories that produce thinner and stronger steels for the automotive industry. The facilities with an investment of 200 million will be completed within three years.
Tata Steel has also invested tens of millions in a hot rolling mill to produce 2.5cm steel plates for mining, construction equipment and crane manufacturers.
New investments are aimed not only at raising the level of the automotive industry, but also to generate higher profits. In the 2015/2016 financial year, the Ijmeiden plants achieved a profit of 153.7 million euros, up from 344.4 million euros a year earlier. The decline was driven by difficult market conditions and high-tech steel exports from Asia, which led to strong pressure on prices.
