The International Nickel Study Group (INSG) has published its 28th report, which analyzes the main trends in the trade of stainless steel scrap between countries around the world.
The INSG report states that Germany, the Netherlands and the United States continue to be among the top three exporters of stainless steel scrap. Germany imported 291 thousand tons and exported 1.083 thousand tons of stainless steel scrap during the year. The three main importing countries for stainless steel scrap in the world were Belgium, India and Finland. In addition, the global trade in stainless steel scrap declined throughout the year. Overall, imports fell 2%, while exports declined 4.4% over the year.
Among Asian countries, India, Taiwan, China and Korea were the main importers. India's imports rose nearly 10% to 751,000 tonnes over the year. Chinese imports fell by more than 4% to 334 thousand tons. Taiwan imported about 266 thousand tons and exported about 41 thousand tons. Korean imports and exports grew over the year to a total of 289 thousand tons and 154 thousand tons, respectively. Meanwhile, Japan remained the top exporter of stainless steel scrap throughout the year. The country's scrap exports rose 73% year-on-year to 190 thousand.
