EU anti-dumping policy disrupts the free market

Protecting the EU steel market in response to anti-competitive actions creates administrative interference with free trade. In the iron and steel industry, the European Union seems to be moving in the right direction, but the whole mechanism requires a significant revision. The imposition of duties for one producer or one country means that suddenly there is a double-digit growth in imports from other countries.

Sometimes this leads to an improvement in the competitive position of their own producers, but sometimes it also contributes to the anti-cavitation flow of steel to the market from neighboring countries, bypassing customs regulations. The Americans recognized the steel products imported from Vietnam with the predominant share of steel from China.

An interesting situation has developed in connection with the introduction of anti-dumping duties on reinforcing steel from Belarus, the inflow of which has decreased, but the import of wire rod from the European Union has significantly increased.

In the first six months, imports of metal products from Ukraine almost doubled on an annualized basis, reaching 600 thousand tons. Supplies from Russia remained at the same level as in the previous year - about 300 thousand tons.
