Scrap steel contracts on the London Metal Exchange won the prestigious industry award one year after their launch. Scrap Steel won the Futures and Options World (FOW) nomination as the most innovative new contract in the commodity and energy industries, reflecting a successful year with over 450,000 tonnes sold to date in 2016.
Scrap steel on the LME was noted for record monthly trading in October 2016 with 147,000 tonnes sold in one month, as well as user engagement in Europe, North America and Asia. Scrap steel sales totaled 49,130 tonnes in November.
Rebar trading on the LME also posted strong growth in 2016, including a record 5,000 tonnes of transactions in a single day on Friday, December 2. For the first time, the global industry can take advantage of the 15-month forward curve data for scrap steel and rebar.
