According to the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), global scrap consumption in 2016 was about 560 million tonnes, up 0.9% from the previous year.
At the same time, myrrh steel production increased by 0.9% to 1.63 billion tonnes in 2016, and the use of scrap metal increased to 34.36% compared to 34.37% in 2015.
Turkey, the world's largest consumer of scrap metal, increased imports by 9% to 17.72 million tons. Of these, imports from the United States fell by 15.1% to 3.26 million tons, from the UK increased by 6.2% to 2.6 million tons.
The largest exporter of scrap metal was the EU 28 countries in the amount of 17.8 million tons, and the export of scrap metal to Turkey reached 10.42 million tons.
