Metallurgical coal prices reached $ 200 per tonne amid high global steel output and the tropical cyclone season in Australia.
The coking coal price closed yesterday at $ 200.5 per ton. Last week, its price rose by 6.2%, in addition, the growth has been taking place for the fifth week in a row. The weekly gain has secured a new record since August 2017. At an annual level, the record price of coal was observed in April of this year - $ 314 per ton, amid a supply disruption due to a cyclone in Australia.
During October, global steel production reached record levels, which will drive demand for coal and its prices even higher. In addition, the rainy season is supporting coal prices.
Since the beginning of 2017, the average coking coal price has reached $ 183 per ton.
