Rebar and sheet steel prices rise in Northern Europe

The rise in scrap prices contributed to the rise in rebar prices in Denmark in January. So far, the mild winter has enabled infrastructure projects to be carried out, which has led to a healthy consumption of rebar and sheet metal. The construction sector operates in Sweden without major weather disturbances.

Substantial increases in rebar prices were driven by strong demand and steep scrap costs. Sales rose in January in Finland after a seasonal decline in December. Rising raw material costs for factories support the increasing cost of rebar. Distributors have been able to accelerate price increases for end users. The material from Russian producers is cheaper, so the proposals from the southern European factories will become less competitive.

The Dutch economy is booming - especially in the housing sector. EU factories are busy with high capacity utilization. Turkish suppliers are present on the market, but their offers are not attractive. In Norway, construction and infrastructure activities are also at a high level and need metal rolling.
