Kryvyi Rih Mining and Metallurgical Plant increased capital investments in 2017

At the end of 2017, the plant of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih increased capital investments by 41.7% at an annual level - to UAH 6.8 billion from UAH 4.8 billion. In 2018, the company intends to allocate UAH 7.7 billion for capital investments.

The company's operating costs in 2017 increased by 69.2% - to UAH 2.2 billion from UAH 1.3 billion. In 2018, operating costs are planned at the level of UAH 3.2 billion.

Last year, the company began construction of two new continuous casting machines (continuous casting machines No. 2, 3). Their productivity will be higher - 1.4 million tons of billets per year (at the operating CCM # 1 - 1.2 million tons), and the assortment will be wider (the enterprise will be able to produce billets with a cross section of both 150X150 mm and 130X130 mm). At the moment, there is an active construction, installation of metal structures, the supplier of equipment - SMS Group company has been selected. The launch of the new machines is planned by the end of 2018.

Reconstruction of the complex of coke oven batteries No. 5 and No. 6 is nearing completion. In fact, the company is building new batteries (the only one in the country). The sixth battery entered the design coking period in July 2017, and the fifth battery was put on warm-up in mid-December; its launch is expected in March-April this year. The goal of the project is to increase the share of its own coke and coke oven gas (by reducing purchases of natural gas and coke), as well as to reduce emissions into the atmosphere. The capacity of the new batteries will be 1.06 million tons per year.

Last year, the reconstruction of the second block of the company's converters (No. 4, 5, 6) was also completed, during which new gas purifiers were installed. In addition to reducing emissions, this project has reduced water and electricity consumption, reduced smelting times and improved converter productivity. In addition, a closed converter gas cooling loop was introduced at the fourth and fifth converters. A similar one will appear on the sixth converter in the first quarter of this year.

Reconstruction of the first block of converters (No. 1, 2, 3) will take place in 2018–2021. The project provides for the construction of new gas treatment plants. Sinter shop No. 2 is being renewed in order to reduce the impact of production on the environment, to increase the productivity and reliability of equipment. In 2016, the sixth sintering machine was modernized, in 2017 - the fifth (now at the launch stage). Each one has a new aspiration system installed and a gas cleaning system replaced; a more efficient (dry) method of dust collection with the help of electrostatic precipitators is used. The effect is to reduce emissions by 500 tons for each sinter machine.
