The associations of Chinese steel and other metals producers have demanded that the PRC authorities impose restrictions on imports from the United States in response to the introduction of Donald Trump into the country by importing steel and aluminum imported into the United States.
American tariffs have caused great concern around the world. However, it is already known that they will not cover all countries. The list of exceptions, of course, does not apply to China.
The China Iron and Steel Industry Association and the China Non-Ferrous Metals Association have offered to import imported products into China, including steel, coal, agricultural products, electronics, recycled aluminum and luxury goods.
Trump imposed a 25 percent duty on steel and a 10 percent duty on aluminum on Thursday when Canada and Mexico were not included in tariffs while those countries negotiate a NAFTA agreement with the United States. Canada is the largest source of steel, with 41 percent of US imports.
The introduction of these obligations raises concerns about escalating trade tensions and the outbreak of a customs war between the United States and other countries that may send additional goods out of the United States in return.
Earlier on March 8, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke at a press conference on the sidelines of the parliamentary session in Beijing that China would use a "justified and necessary response" to protect its interests.
