Nearly 60 workers at the Darasun mine in Transbaikal went on a hunger strike on Tuesday over non-payment of their wages. As a result, an administrative offense case was initiated against a company that was late in paying salaries.
According to the Russian media, financial fraud often occurs in the mining business in Russia. They are especially abundant in smaller plants. Their owners change quickly, which often makes it difficult to receive overdue money.
Russia is one of the largest gold producers in the world. This year, its production will reach 328 tons, which is 3 percent more than in 2017.
In general, the financial indebtedness of the company to employees is 38 million rubles. Management shifts its problems to maintaining the profitability of production. But the miners say it's not true. The mine is still producing precious ore.
