Steel production in India rose six percent in July 2018 to 8.73 million tonnes, according to official figures. In the same month a year ago, the country produced 8.22 million tons of steel.
Pig iron output rose 9 percent to 0.49 tons from 0.45 tons in July 2017.
Metal output amounted to 5.94 million tons compared to 5.44 million tons last year. While 4.9 thousand tons were produced by six companies, the rest 0.96 from other producers.
India overtook Japan to become the second largest steel producer in February, according to the World Steel Organization (worldsteel), as its steel production rose 3.43 percent to 8.43 tonnes, up from 8.29 tonnes of the latter.
