Argentina produced 349,500 metric tons of crude steel in September, down 4.7% from August. The figures were reported by the steel industry chamber Acero Argentino (AA).
Hot-rolled coil output fell 24.5% month on month to 150,400 metric tons, while cold-rolled coil production slipped 1.9% to 103,100 metric tons. Long steel output rose 11% to 138,600 metric tons.
Compared with September 2025, crude steel production was down 2%. Hot-rolled coil output fell 25.6% and cold-rolled coil production declined 3.1%, while long steel production increased 24.1%.
AA said Argentina’s industrial recovery remains uneven. Energy, agriculture and mining are driving activity, while construction, automotive manufacturing and household appliances are lagging amid a sluggish recovery in domestic consumption.
Rising imports across the value chain, particularly from China, are adding pressure, AA said. The chamber linked them to China’s structural overcapacity and low prices that have prompted anti-dumping disputes worldwide.
