Brazil imported 37,800 metric tons of Galvalume, a steel product with an aluminum-zinc coating, in September 2026. Imports totaled 25,500 mt in August, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) at Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
Vietnam was the largest supplier, shipping 34,200 mt at an average of $789 per mt FOB. Brazil also imported 2,000 mt from China at $584 per mt and 1,600 mt from South Korea at $874 per mt.
From January to September 2026, Brazil imported 381,600 mt of Galvalume at an average price of $651 per mt FOB. The country regularly imports the material because domestic production is insufficient to meet demand.
A new ArcelorMittal Galvalume line at its Tubarão plant could reduce imports. It is expected to begin operating in the first half of 2030. CSN and ArcelorMittal Tubarão are also licensed to produce Galvalume in Brazil by BIEC International, a subsidiary of BlueScope Steel.
