World steel production for 64 countries representing the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 154.6 million tonnes in July 2018, up 5.8% from July 2017.
Steel output in China in July 2018 amounted to 81.2 million tons, which is 7.2% more compared to July 2017. India produced 9 million tonnes over this period, up 8%. In July 2018, Japan produced 8.4 million tonnes of crude steel, down 2.0% from July 2017. In July 2018, the United States produced 7.3 million tonnes of steel, up 4.5% from July 2017.
Steel production in South Korea in July amounted to 6.2 million tonnes in 2018, an increase of 0.1% in July 2017. Production in Russia in July 2018 amounted to 6.17 million tons, an increase of 0.8%.
In Germany, smelting was 3.9 million tons, an increase of 10.9%. In July 2018, Turkey's production amounted to 3.3 million tons, which is 2.3% less than in July 2017. Brazil's crude steel production in July 2018 was 3.0 Mt, up 6.7% on July 2017.
Steel production in Ukraine this month amounted to 1.8 million tons, which is 11.4% more than in July 2017.
The utilization rate of steel capacity in 64 countries in July 2018 was 77.5%. This is 3.8 percentage points higher than in July 2017. Compared to June 2018, this is 1.4 percentage points lower.
