ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih informed the public about its intention to obtain emission permits from metallurgical production and mine administration

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih held public hearings on its intention to obtain a permit for emissions into the atmosphere from stationary sources of the industrial site No. 1 of the Metallurgical Plant and the Mine Directorate for underground ore mining. The hearings were held with the participation of public environmental organizations, city council deputies, interested residents of the city, as well as specialists from ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and the Research Institute for Industrial and Sanitary Gas Purification (UkrNIIOGaz).

According to the mine administration, the enterprise received the current emission permits 5 years ago - in 2014. They will expire in April 2019. According to these permits, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih had to reconstruct gas cleaning units (GOU) in order to achieve the maximum permissible emissions standard. The enterprise fulfilled these obligations in full: 4 GOUs were reconstructed and 3 centralized aspiration units were built. In particular, ineffective Siot dust-cleaning cyclones have been replaced with modern STsN-40. Each gas treatment plant has an automated environmental monitoring system. Investments amounted to over UAH 27 million. To date, all 15 gas cleaning units of the mine administration comply with state standards.

In terms of metal production, the company presented a report on the main stationary sources of emissions, taking into account new construction and reconstruction facilities (new continuous casting machines, light section mill No. 250-4, inter-shop gas pipelines of coke oven, blast furnace and natural gases, etc.). The implementation of investment projects is aimed at achieving state standards and gradually reducing the load on the sanitary protection zone.

The last permit for emissions for industrial site No. 1 of the metallurgical plant was received on December 28, 2016. The enterprise has complied with all its obligations. During this period, the following was completed: ahead of schedule - reconstruction of gas cleaning behind the rotary kiln No. 2 of the roasting and lime shop, construction of a GOU downstream of converter No. 4 with CO afterburning at the converter shop flare. In addition, the technology of steel production at the twin-vaned steel-making unit No. 6 was improved with the minimization of fugitive emissions, as well as two GOUs from the mortar preparation units and dry grinding runners No. 1 of the repair production were reconstructed.

After discussion and open dialogue with the public, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is ready to submit all the necessary documentation to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine to obtain a permit for emissions from the metal production and mine administration in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.
