India's crude steel production fell 1 percent to 9.412 million tonnes in March 2019, according to a report by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the same month, a year ago, India produced 9.506 million tonnes of crude steel, according to its latest report.
India produced 9.412 million tonnes of crude steel in March 2019, down 1% from 9.506 million tonnes in March 2018.
This is the second drop India has reported in steel production since January.
Before February saw a 2.3% increase in crude steel production, India reported a 1.9% drop in steel production in January.
"World production of crude steel for 64 countries that provided world steel amounted to 155 million tons in March 2019, which is 4.9 percent more than 147.71 tons in March 2018," the association said.
China's steel production in March was 80.326 million tonnes, up 10% from 73.047 million tonnes in March 2018, worldsteel reported.
Crude steel production in Japan remained unchanged in March at 9.1 million tonnes.
In March, the United States produced 7.8 million tons of crude steel, up 5.7 percent, while South Korea reported a 2.8 percent increase in production to 6.3 million tons.
“In the EU, steel production in Italy in March 2019 was 2.3 million tons. France produced 1.4 million tons of steel and Spain 1.4 million tons, ”it was reported.
While Ukraine produced 2 million tonnes of steel, Brazil and Turkey produced 2.8 million tonnes and 3 million tonnes, respectively, in March 2019.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest industry associations in the world, of which all major steel producing countries are members. Its members represent about 85 percent of the world's steel production.
