ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih "plans to reconstruct the wire mill No. 1

At a public hearing, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih presented an environmental impact assessment report for the reconstruction project of Wire Mill No. 1 with the replacement of two layers and two tribes. The design decisions were made based on the basic engineering of the technology and main equipment supplier - Danieli.

This mill produces wire rod, round bar and reinforcing steel with a diameter of 5.5 to 14 mm in coils. After the block of finishing stands, the product passes through the water cooling section and enters the layering machine, which feeds it in the form of a flat spiral onto a moving conveyor. A tribo device on the rolling line is installed to regulate the tension of the wire rod and to automatically feed the wire rod to the laying line at a high speed.

Reconstruction will reduce operating costs due to increased wear resistance and increased equipment service life. In particular, to reduce the vibration level due to the use of a hydrostatic bearing in the layering structure, to stabilize the formation of coils during rolling at a speed of 85 meters per second. In addition, it will be possible to increase the level of industrial safety during the operation of equipment and improve working conditions.

After the installation of new layers with tribes, the mill will continue to produce products at a speed not exceeding 85 m /s. Mill productivity at this stage will not increase. To increase its productivity, in the future, they will replace ten-stand blocks and mandrels, switch to modern SIMATIC 7 controllers - this is already the next stage of reconstruction, within which they want to increase the feed rate of rolled products from 85 to 120 m /s, which will make it possible to achieve design indicators.

At the current stage of reconstruction of wire mill No. 1, it is not planned to increase the volume of emissions and the formation of new ones. The project does not provide for a significant impact on the environment both in the course of the work and during the further operation of the facility. The authors of the prepared reports and representatives of various services of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih answered questions from residents and the public.
