Results of rolled metal production in Ukraine for the first half of 2019

During 6 months of 2019, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 9,420,000 tons of rolled metal (101.9% compared to the same period in 2018), of which about 8,110,000 tons, or 86.1%, were exported. In the same period in 2019, the share of exports was about 84.6% (7,820,000 tons with a total production of 925,000 tons of rolled metal).

The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for the first half of 2019 is 46.99%, which is slightly higher than the indicator for the period January-June 2018 (44.88%). The share of flat products in export deliveries for 6 months practically coincides with the indicator for the same period in 2018 (33.24% and 33.29%, respectively); the share of long products in supplies to foreign markets for 6 months of 2019 is lower than in the same period of 2018 (19.78% and 21.88%, respectively).

In January-June 2019, 1973.8 thousand tons of rolled metal were supplied to domestic consumers, of which 661.8 thousand tons or 33.5% were imported. For the same period in 2018, the domestic market consumed 2,081.3 thousand tons, of which 653.3 thousand tons or 31.4% were imported. Thus, for 6 months of 2018, the decrease in consumption of rolled metal in the domestic market compared to January-May 2018 is (-5.17%), while the import component slightly increased (+ 1.3%).

The structure of imports for the first half of 2019 is characterized by a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (53.58% and 41.81%, respectively); in the same period in 2018, the share of long products was slightly higher than the share of flat products (48.63% and 47.91%, respectively).

The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products in January-June 2019 are the countries of the European Union (32.1%), Africa (18.9%) and the Middle East (12.2%).

Among metallurgical importers for 6 months of 2019, the CIS ranks first (55.3%), the second is the EU countries (18.2%), and the third is Asia (14.8%).
