Salzgitter Group selected as a supplier for the Baltic Pipe project

The subsidiaries and associated companies of the Salzgitter Group will produce and supply about 30,000 tonnes of steel pipes and 90 steel pipe bends for the Baltic Pipes project. This is an important European gas infrastructure project that will transport Norwegian natural gas via Denmark to Poland.

The pipes will be produced by Mannesmann Grossrohr (about 24,000 tonnes) and EUROPIPE (about 6,000 tonnes) and the bends by Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech. Raw materials, including slabs for the production of sheet and hot rolled coils, will be supplied by other subsidiaries and associated companies of the Salzgitter group. Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH will be responsible for the entire coordination of the project from preparation of the proposal to the execution of the order. The company will also protect the entire supply chain and partner with renowned financial service providers.

From January to March 2020, Salzgitter Mannesmann International will supply pipes and elbows to the customer Energinet for the 2nd section of the project. Together with its road, rail and sea transport partners, SMID will be responsible for the complex logistics of the project, including the delivery and stacking of pipes and bends in 24 different storage facilities along the pipeline route.
