Many people are expected to lose their jobs at the Commercial Metals Company steel mill on Rancho Cucamonga in southern California, USA.
A corporation spokesman confirms that they are closing most of the plant. CMC spokeswoman Susan Gerber said: “The burdensome regulatory environment and the cost of doing business in California have put the Rancho Cucamonga smelter at a disadvantage in the highly competitive valve market. Therefore, CMC decided to close the smelter and re-supply the rolling mill with a billet due to the excess melt capacity in our entire low-cost mill system. ”
Eventually, the Commercial Metals Company decides to close the smelter where "old steel" is melted into rebar for construction.
