Korean media reported that five people were injured in the explosions at Posco's steel mill in Gwangyang. POSCO said: “An explosion and fire occurred during the test of the waste heat generator. The ensuing fire was stopped after 21 minutes.
Among the five wounded was one with serious injuries, who was taken to hospital for treatment.
The fire had no impact on operations as the site where the fire started is a research site not directly related to production operations. The fire department and other relevant agencies are investigating the cause of the incident. "
Media reported that the explosion was so violent that windows were shaking at houses 2.5 miles away, and drivers on a bridge 300 feet away from the explosion felt it shaking.
