ArcelorMittal divested of Italian steel mill?

ArcelorMittal отказывается от итальянского сталелитейного завода?
According to Italian media reports, ArcelorMittal was supposed to replace the entire management of its subsidiary there, recalling the international team that had run the company since the acquisition of the steel mill in Taranto. Blast Furnace 2 was expected to explode three times in the factory last week. This could delay the shutdown of Furnace 1 announced for the first quarter of this year.

Blast furnace 2 explosions destroyed part of the installation, but did not result in casualties.
The operation of the furnace No. 1 will be extended for the period of elimination of the explosion malfunction in the adjacent furnace.
According to some observers, the change in the management of ArcelorMittal Italia signals a desire to leave the group from Ilva.

ArcelorMittal seems to be experiencing growing problems in Italy. Blast furnace # 2 was supposed to be shut down following a fatal accident there in 2015. He was conditionally recruited and received an extinguishing order issued by a court in Taranto. The order was withdrawn, but the future of this oven is one of the main topics of the group's negotiations with the Italian authorities.

The next round of negotiations was supposed to take place during the economic summit in Davos, but, according to the Italian press, the meeting did not take place.

Recent explosions in blast furnace # 2 destroyed part of the facility, but did not harm the plant's crew. Problems arose when the group began extinguishing blast furnace # 1 announced last fall. This is the result of a decline in demand for steel. The production from kiln # 1 was to be transferred to kiln # 2, operating at partial load. At the present time, the operation of furnace No. 1 will be extended for the period of elimination of the failure of explosions in the adjacent furnace.

The furnaces of the metallurgical plant were supposed to provide the company with up to 8 million tons of steel per year (when ArcelorMittal acquired the metallurgical plant, three furnaces were able to produce 6 million tons of crude steel), and the rolling mills - almost 10 million tons of finished products. ArcelorMittal has offered € 1.8 billion for the acquisition of an Italian steel plant and a € 2.3 billion investment, of which € 1.15 billion was to be spent on investments to reduce the environmental impact of the steel plant. ArcelorMittal is already making or completing some of these investments.

In July, a local court ordered the closure of Blast Furnace # 2, which had been conditionally allowed following a 2015 accident. ArcelorMittal announced that it had abandoned the lease and after May 1, 2021, it acquired the Ilva steel plant in Taranto. Legal protection for the modernization and environmental improvement of the steel plant was one of the terms of the contract. The company referred to the contract, stating that in this case it has the right to refuse it - it does not want to pay for negligence
