Results of production and consumption of rolled metal in Ukraine for 12 months of 2019

In 12 months of 2019, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 18.20 million tons of rolled metal (99.1% compared to the same period in 2018), of which about 14,940,000 tons, or 82.1%, were exported. In the same period of 2019, the share of exports was about 78.5% (14,420,000 tons with a total production of 18,370,000 tons of rolled metal).

The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for 12 months of 2019 is 47.18%, which is slightly higher than the indicator for the period January-December 2018 (43.64%). The share of flat products in export deliveries over 12 months is slightly lower than the indicator for the same period in 2018 (32.80% and 34.89%, respectively); the share of long products in supplies to foreign markets for 12 months of 2019 is also slightly lower than in the same period in 2018 (20.02% and 21.46%, respectively).

In January-December 2019, 4685.3 thousand tons of rolled metal were supplied to domestic consumers, of which 1419.3 thousand tons or 30.3% were imports. For the same period in 2018, the domestic market consumed 5394.0 thousand tons, of which 1442.0 thousand tons or 26.7% were imported. Thus, over the 12 months of 2018, the decrease in consumption of rolled metal in the domestic market relative to January-December 2018 is 13.1%, while the share of the import component slightly increased (+ 1.6%).

The structure of imports for 12 months of 2019 is characterized by a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (55.29% and 41.87%, respectively); in the same period in 2018, the dominance of flat products over long products was less significant (51.05% and 45.90%, respectively).

The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products in January-December 2019 are the countries of the European Union (34.2%), Africa (16.6%) and the Middle East (10.7%).

Among metallurgical importers for 12 months of 2019, the CIS ranks first (45.3%), the second is the EU-28 (19.9%), and the third is the countries of Asia (18.4%).
