Canadian new vehicle sales fall 0.8% in August

Canada sold 174,611 new motor vehicles in August 2026, down 0.8% from July but up 4.9% from a year earlier, according to Statistics Canada.

The value of sales totaled $9.89 billion, compared with $10.08 billion in July and $9.09 billion in August 2025. Sales of North American-made vehicles reached 109,552 units, valued at $6.63 billion. Overseas-made vehicles accounted for 65,059 sales worth $3.26 billion.
