Results of metallurgical production in Ukraine for 4 months of 2020

Результаты металлургического производства Украины за 4 месяца 2020 года
The results of the production of MMC of Ukraine for the first 4 months of 2020 indicate a continued decline in all types of metallurgical production, which is associated not only with the COVID-19 pandemic, but also with the general situation in the global steel market starting from the third quarter of 2019 The main reasons for the record reduction in production, except for the global quarantine - strengthening of state protectionism in traditional Ukrainian metallurgy export countries, lower prices and reduced demand for metal products, the presence of excess global steelmaking capacities with a capacity of about 440 million tons per year, as well as "tariff arbitrariness" on the part of national state monopolists, such as JSC " Ukrzaliznytsia ", State Enterprise Administration of Ukrainian Seaports, Naftogaz.

The domestic mining and metallurgical industry still remains the leading component of the industrial complex of Ukraine, which provides about 27% of foreign exchange earnings, 12% of GDP, more than 30 billion UAH of compensation to the budgets of all levels (at the end of 2019) and 700 thousand jobs.

Currently, Ukrainian metallurgy especially needs state support, first of all, in ensuring a stable and favorable tariff and tax field, providing high-quality service from state transport companies, creating conditions for expanding investments in the real sector and the related process of growth in metal consumption. , as well as protecting the interests of Ukrainian exporters in foreign markets.
In April 2020 produced
-agglomerate - 2,450,000 tons (88.2% versus April 2019)
- coke - 0760000 tons (85.6%);
- pig iron - 1,390,000 tons (75.7%);
- steel - 1,340,000 tons (69.1%);
- rolled products - 1.30 million tons (79.4%).

Such a decrease in production in the industry is, first of all, a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the general unfavorable market situation for metal products.
