Weekly statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) show a marked decline in steel production during the last week ending June 13, 2020.
Weekly steel production was 1.210 million tonnes with a capacity utilization rate of 54.0%. This compares to production of 1.863 million tonnes in the week ended June 13, 2019, with a capacity utilization rate of 80.1%. Compared to the same period last year, production decreased by 17.7%. On the other hand, production increased slightly by 1.3% over the previous week. Steel production was 1.195 million net tonnes at a 53.3% capacity utilization rate for the week ended June 6, 2020, according to AISI.
