Pig iron production

According to Worldsteel, for 7 months of 2020, metallurgical enterprises of the countries of the world produced 790,110,000 tons of pig iron, of which 743,620,000 tons were produced by the blast furnace method and 46,490,000 tons by the direct reduction method. The result is 3.79% lower than the same period in 2019 (821,270,000 tons).

The first place belongs to the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists produced 510,860,000 tons of pig iron in January-July 2020, which is 3.15% more than in the first half of 2019 (495,260,000 tons). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production for 7 months of 2020 is 64.7%.

The positions of other leading countries have not changed

Ukraine produced 11,740,000 tons, which is 1.3% lower compared to January-July 2019, and ranks 9th among 40 countries that produce pig iron.

The decline in global pig iron production was primarily caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steel Production

World steel production for 7 months of 2020 is 1,027,410,000 tons, which is 5.27% less than in January-July 2019 (1,084,610,000 tons).

The leader here is also the People's Republic of China, which smelted 593,170,000 tons, which is 2.78% more than in 7 months of 2019 (577,140,000 tons). The PRC's share in world steel production is 57.7%.

The positions of other leading countries have not changed.

Ukraine produced 11,860,000 tons of steel, which is 6.8% lower compared to January-July 2019 and ranks 13th among 62 steel-producing countries.

The reduction in global steel production was primarily caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
