Ukraine in the world ranking of metallurgical production for 8 months of 2020

Украина в мировом рейтинге металлургического производства за 8 месяцев 2020 года
According to Worldsteel, during 8 months of 2020 steelmakers from all over the world smelted almost 912 million tons of pig iron, of which 857 million tons were produced by the blast furnace method and 54.96 million tons by the direct reduction method. These figures are 3.09% lower than in the same period in 2019 (941 million tons).

The first place belongs to the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists produced 589.40 million tons of pig iron in January-August 2020, which is 3.40% more than in the first half of 2019 (570050000 tons). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production for 8 months of 2020 is 64.6%.

The positions of other leading countries have not changed

Ukraine smelted 13.55 million tons or 98.8% compared to January-August 2019 and ranks 9th among 40 countries that produce pig iron.

The decline in global pig iron production was primarily caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

World steel production for 8 months of 2020 is 1,187.81 million tons, which is 4.20% less than in January-August 2019 (1,229,940,000 tons).

The leader here is also the People's Republic of China, smelted 688890000 tons, which is 3.66% more than in 8 months of 2019 (664.580 million tons). The PRC's share in world steel production is 58.0%.

The positions of other leading countries remained the same.

Ukraine produced 13.68 tons or 93.4% compared to January-August 2019 and ranks 13th among 62 steel-producing countries.

The reduction in global steel production, including in Ukraine, was caused, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.
