Results of production and consumption of rolled metal products in Ukraine for 9 months of 2020

Over the past 9 months of this year, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 13,710,000 tons of rolled metal (97.2% compared to the same period in 2019), of which, according to ETR-Spectr LLC, about 11,310,000 tons, or 82.5%, were exported. In the same period in 2019, the share of exports was about 82.7% (11,670,000 tons with a total production of 14,110,000 tons of rolled metal).

The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for 9 months of 2020 is 50.67%, which is higher than the indicator for the period January-September 2019 (45.95%). The share of flat products in export deliveries for 9 months of 2020 is slightly lower than the indicator for the same period in 2019 (32.23% and 33.77%, respectively). The share of long products in export deliveries for 9 months of 2020 is noticeably inferior to the indicator for the same period in 2019 (17.10% in 2020 versus 20.28% in 2019).

In January-September 2020, the capacity of the domestic market was 3297.6 thousand tons of rolled metal, of which 894.6 thousand tons or 2671% were imports. For the same period in 2019, the capacity of the domestic market was 3,516.8 thousand tons, of which 1,075.8 thousand tons or 30.6% were imported. Thus, for 8 months of 2020, there is a decrease in the capacity of the domestic market relative to January-September 2019 by 6.2%, with a simultaneous reduction in the share of the import component by 3.5%.

The structure of imports for 9 months of 2020 is characterized by the domination of flat products over long products (56.29% and 42.51%, respectively); in the same period of 2019, the dominance of flat products over long products was more noticeable (55.94% and 40.81%, respectively).
The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products in January-September 2020, according to ETR-Spectr LLC, are the countries of the European Union (27.3%), Asia (16.9%) and the rest of Europe (14.2%).

Among metallurgical importers for 9 months of 2020, the first place is taken by the CIS (35.8%), the second is the EU-28 (24.4%), and the third is the countries of Asia (22.5%).
