NLMK Lipetsk has mastered the production of a new brand of high-strength cold-rolled steel - a unique product for the Russian market. Its properties allow the manufacture of lighter components while maintaining the same material strength, which means that NLMK steel can replace imported steel in the automotive and metalworking industries. NLMK delivered the first batch of such steel to Specta, a leading manufacturer of steel packaging straps.
High-strength cold-rolled steel is used, in particular, in the production of safety-critical components for car bodywork. For example, the strength properties of such steel provide high-quality consumer characteristics of other products, for example, a steel strip manufactured by the VolgaStrap division of Specta Group. They are used for packaging large-tonnage cargo (rolled steel, pipes, etc.) and must combine high strength with ductility in order to withstand dynamic loads.
For the needs of the client, NLMK supplied VolgaStrap steel approximately 1.5 times stronger than its closest analogs with a comparable level of plasticity.
Ilya Gushchin, Vice President for Sales of NLMK Group, said: “Our cooperation with Specta is an important experience for NLMK in developing customer focus and adapting to current market requirements. The properties of our new steel grade satisfy the needs of our customers from various industries. Currently undergoing homologation procedures for automotive companies that use such steel for the production of safety-critical body parts. ”
Eric Helin, CEO of Specta Group, said: “With our innovative quality system, Specta steel packaging straps have earned the trust of many customers. We supply steel belts to all leading steel companies in the CIS. We also have a strong position in the Middle East, Europe and North America market. NLMK Group has made a great contribution to our success. NLMK Group and Specta have long-standing relationships, systematic development programs and cooperation in promoting new materials. This is a win-win strategy for NLMK and Specta, and, most importantly, our Russian and foreign clients. "
