Weekly U.S. crude steel production posted a notable 47.1% rise in the week ending May 15, 2021, compared to the same week in 2020, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Weekly US crude steel production was 1.799 million tonnes. The utilization rate of the production capacity of the domestic plant was 79.2%. It should be noted that during the corresponding week of 2020, production was only 1.223 million tonnes, with a much lower capacity utilization rate of 54.6%. Meanwhile, weekly crude steel production rose slightly over the week by 1.4%. Domestic steel mills produced 1.774 million tonnes in the week ended May 8, 2021.
Cumulative year-to-date adjusted crude steel production in the United States was 33.888 million tonnes for the week ended May 15, 2021. This is 7.3% more compared to production of 31.588 million tonnes in the same period in 2020. the utilization rate also recorded significant growth from 69.9% to 77.5% over the year.
