On July 14, the European Commission's “Fit for 55” package was released, which will revise the EU's climate and energy policies. The new policy aims to reduce carbon emissions by 55% from 1990 levels.
Axel Eggert, CEO of EUROFER, commented on the new policy, according to which the European Commission must ensure three things to implement the new policy: effective protection against carbon leakage, affordable low-carbon energy and strong support for advanced technologies.
Fit for 55 depended on successfully channeling resources and finding a market for environmentally friendly steel, especially since the cost of such steel was higher than that of conventional steel.
