In his speech, Klingbeil paid special attention to the steel industry, warning that "dirty steel from China should not displace domestic steel." He stressed that steel production should remain anchored in Germany, as it is crucial for industrial value chains, energy transition infrastructure, and national security.
The Finance Minister linked this position to the federal government's broader commitment to supporting industries undergoing green transformation. He stressed that the future of the automotive industry lies with electricity, and the expansion of charging infrastructure and electric mobility is crucial for employment.
Klingbeil argued that jobs in both the steel and automotive industries are at the heart of Germany's prosperity and social cohesion. According to him, the upcoming budget must find a balance between fiscal responsibility and the protection of the industrial basis of the German economy.
