Japan's industrial output decreased by 1.2 percent in August 2025 compared to July

In August of this year, Japan's industrial production decreased by 1.2 percent month-on-month and by 1.3 percent compared to the same month in 2024, according to preliminary indexes of the industrial production report published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI).

On the other hand, in August, Japan's iron and steel production index decreased by 1.1 percent year-on-year, while Japan's seasonally adjusted iron and steel production index decreased by three percent in this month compared to July. Meanwhile, in August, shipments of iron and steel by Japanese manufacturers increased by 4.6 percent, while iron and steel stocks decreased by 3.4 percent compared to the previous month.

According to the ministry's Manufacturing Production forecast study, industrial production in Japan is expected to increase by 4.1 percent in September and 1.2 percent in October, both on a monthly basis. Meanwhile, Japan's iron and steel production is expected to grow by 1.9 percent in September and decline by 2.2 percent in October, month on month.
