Chinese company Shanxi Jingang New Materials Technology orders ESP line from Primetals

The Chinese steel manufacturer Shanxi Jingang New Materials Technology has signed a contract with the British manufacturer Primetals Technologies for the supply of a new plant for casting and rolling thin slabs based on Arvedi Endless Strip Production (ESP) technology. According to Primetals, the scope of supply also includes a complete electrical package, tier 1 and tier 2 automation systems, and advanced digitalization solutions to improve process efficiency.

Primetals is committed to an accelerated schedule, with the first reel targeted within 18 months of the effective date of the contract.

Technical characteristics of the line

The new ESP line, which will be built in Jincheng, Shanxi Province, will have an annual capacity of 2.6 million tons. Designed to operate in a completely endless mode, it will produce strip calibers from 0.7mm to 12.7mm, expanding Shanxi Jinggang's capabilities in advanced steel production.

The ESP plant will feature:

• Four mills with a high degree of recovery
• Five finishing mills
• Innovative infinite configuration to maximize energy efficiency and product quality

This project will be the 14th ESP line in the world and the 10th in China, highlighting the global adoption of Arvedi ESP technology in advanced steelmaking.
