India's JSW Steel limited is working to strengthen its commodity security through a combination of domestic expansion and overseas acquisitions, the company's chief executive said in a statement on Tuesday, October 28.
“We continue to strengthen this part through a well-diversified portfolio of iron ore and coking coal," said JSW Steel, joint managing director Jayant Acharya.
JSW Steel is in the process of acquiring the Minas de Revuboe project in Mozambique, which aims to provide access to high-quality, low-volatile coal. (PLV) premium coking coal, he said.
The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of this financial year.
The company recently increased its stake in the Australian asset of Illawarra coking coal from 20 to 30 percent, ensuring a stable selection of high-quality coking coal, he added.
In the domestic market, the steel company is focused on expanding iron ore production capacity. JSW Steel currently operates 12 iron ore mines - nine in Karnataka and three in Odisha.
Acharya said three new iron ore mines in Karnataka are expected to start production in the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27, adding 4 million tonnes per annum of additional ore per annum.
