US steelmaker Nucor will invest $60 million to expand its Nucor Towers and Structures facility in Trinity, Alabama. Subject to regulatory approvals, the project will boost production of steel poles and other utility infrastructure structures and create 60 jobs with average annual wages above $87,000.
The site will gain production capacity and additional storage space, as well as a dedicated area for inspecting galvanized products. Located next to Nucor Steel Decatur, the facility began operating in September 2025.
Alabama’s governor said Nucor considered other states for the expansion. The company is eligible for state support through Jobs Act tax credits and the Alabama Industrial Development Training program.
“Utilities across the country are making significant investments to strengthen and modernize the nation’s power grid,” Nucor CEO Leon Topalian said. Locating the expansion next to the Decatur sheet mill, he added, will combine domestically produced steel with efficient manufacturing to serve utility customers.
State Senator Arthur Orr said Nucor’s expansions in Decatur demonstrate the strength of Alabama’s workforce. Skilled workers and attractive financial support, he said, help keep the company investing in the state.
Nucor formed its Towers & Structures business in 2022 by acquiring Summit Utility Structures and its Pennsylvania plant. It has since opened facilities in Alabama and Indiana and is building a fourth in Utah, expected to begin operations next year. Earlier this month, Nucor announced a $105 million expansion of its Crawfordsville, Indiana, facility, expected to create 100 jobs. The company employs more than 2,700 people at 12 locations in Alabama.
