The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) World Recycling Convention & Exhibition is taking place in Malaga from October 25 to 27. More than 1,400 people from 58 countries are attending, a record for the association.
At its welcome press conference, BIR announced the launch of Future Recyclists, an online platform intended to connect graduates and young professionals with career opportunities in the global recycling industry. The association aims to attract a new generation of workers by showcasing opportunities for people in a range of fields, from engineering and law to science and creative work.
BIR also presented findings from The Environmental Benefits of Recycling, a study conducted with KPMG. Its official release is scheduled for January 13, 2027.
Another focus is the list of countries that will be barred from importing waste from the EU under the Waste Shipment Regulation. The list is due to be announced on November 21. BIR is holding discussions with representatives of affected countries to seek common ground with the European Union, and is working with European national associations on possible legal action.
