Late yesterday, October 29, a fire broke out at the Ferriere Nord plant of the Pittini group in Osoppo (Udine), affecting a warehouse where an oil-filled electric transformer was located. The incident required a comprehensive fire extinguishing operation involving units from Udine, Gemona del Friuli and Pordenone, who worked for several hours to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to other parts of the facility.
According to local sources, the fire was limited to the only affected building. The extinguishing operations ended late in the evening after more than six hours of work. There were no casualties among the staff and rescuers. The NBCR unit (specializing in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear risks) remained on site to monitor potential air pollution, and Mayor Osoppo advised residents to keep windows closed as a precaution. A technical inspection is underway this morning to assess the extent of damage to the transformer and the surrounding infrastructure. Production at the plant will be temporarily suspended until the results of these inspections are received.
Ferriere Nord is one of the main production centers of the Pittini Group for the production of long products intended for the construction sector. The company, which employs more than 1,500 people at its facility in Osoppo, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the timing of the resumption of work. Further updates are expected in the coming hours after the completion of technical and environmental assessments.
