The MoU emphasizes reducing illicit shipments from the State of Qatar; strengthening integration between government agencies and the industrial sector to protect national resources; supporting national industry; maintaining supply chain sustainability; regulating scrap iron trade; and ensuring transparency and accountability in commercial transactions.

The regulatory mechanism is expected to strengthen the safety of Qatar Steel's raw materials and contribute to the achievement of the country's broader industrial and economic goals.Qatar Steel has an annual production capacity of about 2.35 million tons of DRI/HBI, 2.57 million tons of billets and 1.8 million tons of rebar in Qatar, while its plant in the UAE produces 240,000 tons of wire rod and 300,000 tons of rebar.
