Brazil's pig iron exports increased sharply in October
Brazilian pig iron exports reached 460,100 tons in October against 295,300 tons in September, according to the SECEX foreign trade agency. The main reason for the increase in volume is that shipments to the United States increased by 53 percent. The destinations in October were the United States (350,900 tons at a price of 394 US dollars/ton), Europe (75,000 tons at a price of 427 US dollars/ton), South America (31,800 tons at a price of 308 US dollars/ton), Asia (1,900 tons at a price of 495 US dollars/ton) and Mexico (500 tons at a price of 540 USD/ton), on FOB terms.Supplies were provided by independent producers from the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo (397,000 tons), from the central-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul (42,400 tons) and from Para in the north (20,700 tons). Such prices were probably agreed in August, indicating that the price of the BPI grade is in the range of 303-422 US dollars per ton, and the price of products of the foundry grade is above 490 US dollars per ton.
