Swiss mining company Ferrexpo, whose main interests are Ukrainian iron ore assets, announced a temporary suspension of production and exports from its Ukrainian mining subsidiaries after Russian missile strikes on November 8 targeted power generation and transmission infrastructure in Khorishni Plavni and the nearby industrial town of Kremenchuk.
Power supply to the two Ferrexpo Poltava Mining and Ferrexpo Yeristovo Mining facilities were interrupted, forcing the company to suspend operations while restoration work continues.
The company confirmed that partial power was restored over the weekend, allowing limited processing to resume. Export operations remain affected until capacity returns to normal.
Ferrexpo stressed that it has taken precautionary measures, including stockpiling intermediate and finished products at facilities and logistics points, to minimize the impact on export supplies.
The suspension of Ferrexpo's Ukrainian production puts further pressure on the supply chain for high-quality iron ore pellets in Europe. With the affected mines located in a key region supplying the European steel sector, any extended downtime could result in higher alternative sourcing costs, potential delays for steel producers and higher risk premiums for logistics routes, SteelOrbis understands.
