The Green Hydrogen plant, located next to JSW Steel Limited's Vijayanagar steel mill in the southern state of Karnataka, will supply green hydrogen directly to the steel mill's direct recovery plant, the statement said.
This will help produce low-carbon steel, reducing the industry's dependence on fossil fuels.
Under the seven-year agreement, JSW Energy will provide JSW Steel with 3,800 tons per year of green hydrogen and 30,000 tons per year of green oxygen.
The company said this is part of its allocation of 6,800 tons per year under the Green Hydrogen Strategic Action Program (SIGHT), implemented by the Indian Government Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with JSW Steel to gradually increase supplies to 85,000-90,000 tons per year of green hydrogen and 720,000 tons per year of green oxygen by 2030.
