Polish coking coal producer Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa SA (JSW) announced its operating results for October this year. Despite difficult market conditions and unexpected developments in the market, the company is consistently implementing the provisions of its Technical and Economic Plan for 2025.
In October, JSW produced 1.40 million tons of coal, which is 99.6 percent of the plan, and in the first 10 months of this year, coal production reached 10.92 million tons, which is 98.5 percent of the target. In the reporting month, the company's coking coal production reached 1.26 million tons, which corresponds to 98.9 percent of the planned figure.
The production level was primarily affected by factors beyond the company's control. In May and September, at the coal mines Budryk and Borynia-Zofevka-Zofevka two cases of force majeure were declared due to natural fires, as previously reported by SteelOrbis. In addition, some mines shut down longwall production earlier than planned, resulting in higher production in previous months and lower production in October.
Despite these challenges, JSW reported strong sales results. In October, JSW sold 1.55 million tons of coal, which is 112.1 percent of the planned volume, while in the first 10 months of this year, the coal sales plan was exceeded by 0.4 percent with sales of 11.11 million tons of coal.
The coke segment also showed stable results. JSW's coke production reached 300,000 tonnes in October, 100 percent of target, while sales rose to 300,000 tonnes, or 112.4 percent of target.
