Sohar Iron and Billets signs $26 million deal for New steel project in Oman

Компания Sohar Iron and Billets подписывает сделку на сумму 26 миллионов долларов на новый сталелитейный проект в Омане

The Omani company Sohar Iron and Billets has announced an investment of $26 million (10 million Omani rials) in the establishment of a new steel and non-ferrous metals production facility in the industrial city of Al-Buraimi, which is managed by the State Institution of Industrial Zones (Madain). The planned facility, which will occupy about 36,000 square meters, will aim to produce a wide range of steel and aluminum products to serve both the domestic market and regional export destinations.

The investments are consistent with the framework of Oman's Vision 2040, which prioritizes industrial diversification, private sector development, and sustainable economic growth. By encouraging production-oriented investments in the steel industry, the initiative aims to increase national self-sufficiency, stimulate job creation, and attract international partnerships in valuable industrial activities.

The industrial city of Al-Buraimi in northern Oman has reportedly become a key hub for the country's ongoing industrial growth. By mid-2025, the total investment in the area has exceeded 287 million Omani rials, covering more than 1,600 active projects, with almost 1.7 million m2 of industrial land still available for future development. The State Institution of Industrial Zones (Madain) has also implemented significant infrastructure upgrades, extending internal roads, sewage treatment plants, and utility networks to increase the efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness of investors operating in the region.

The new facility is expected to strengthen Oman's steel and steel processing industries by reducing dependence on imports and improving the availability of raw materials for construction and manufacturing. It will also help to stabilize the domestic supply and create new jobs. Sohar Iron and Billets is currently operating in the Sohar Industrial Port area with an annual billet production capacity of about 600,000 metric tons.
